fear the starship 3000

I just got back from hanging out in Minneapolis with Jon and Jessica. Jon and I went to the state fair for about 45 minutes before we found Jessie and went to Sally's. I ate a deep-fried candy bar on a stick (most everything edible at the fair was deep-fried and/or on a stick). I think it took a year off my life.

This ride looked like it was entirely enclosed. I bet it's a lot of fun to clean after people have evacuated the contents of their stomachs inside...

There was just barely enough room inside this booth for the operator and the fountain machine. Why wasn't this just a vending machine? Probably because they couldn't charge $3.50 per drink that way.

some random ride

Yes. This teacup ride had a Magnum P.I. theme. That's a painting of Tom Selleck. I don't know what's going on with the Coke can wearing the sunglasses.

Is this what your correspondence starts looking like when you become a rock star or a member of some vestigial royal family?

jonsondag (10:56:03 AM): "the infidels have used our code to upgrade their operating system so we will roast their stomachs in the pits of hell."
scenque (10:56:32 AM): haha

My grandmother died this week. I fly back to the SF Bay area this Friday. I'll probably be busy all weekend, but I'd like to organize dinner with those lucky enough to have stayed in the area. I leave on Tuesday. Monday night perhaps? You all know how to get a hold of me...

Today: 4th of July in Houston, the long way home.

Welcome to Houston.

Lauren and Nate, 4th of July

Lauren, 5th of July. There's another casting of that sculpture in front of the Cummings building at Stanford.

Back at IAH. This plane would eventually strand me in Chicago for a night.

Just outside Aaron Staple's summer residence at UIC.

We've been here five days and all we've eaten is waterproof sealant. We're not totally sure what constitutes a toilet on this planet, but we are willing to compromise.

To come this weekend: revisiting Chicago, feeling Minnesota, maybe even Magic Lantern.

Today's installment: from Graduation to Minnesota.

Is this magazine for real?

Good morning, Berkeley.

Somebody left a whole lot of mashed potatoes out on Haight. You can see where I stepped on it and almost died.

That's a big RV.

...but they wouldn't dig this town.
